Design Philosophy

Almost all the designers I’ve learned from have impressed the idea that good design is built up naturally from the source material and the communication intent. Some bring their own personal style and methods to the work. Others apply a style that matches the content.Context is critical. I start from the ideas and words to be expressed and look to apply design principles in a way that is true to the intention of the material, the intended audience, the media, and the placement. There is no such thing as “timeless design” that sits outside of specific circumstances. This is a Zen approach, applying the concept of “emptiness”, where nothing has an essential nature, but only exists in interdependence with everything else. I try to be mindful of this with everthing I design.
